Wellcome in Region Silistra

 

 

Silistra Region is situated in the North-East part of Bulgaria, bordering Romania through the Danube river. It is located in the Dobrudja plain region, 200 meters above sea level. The Silistra Region covers 2 850 square kilometers of land, which includes 7 municipalities:

 

Silistra, Dulovo, Tutrakan, Alfatar, Kainardja, Glavinitsa, Sitovo.

 

The good geographical situation and the preference of many different types of transportation make the Silistra region a good prospect of economic development.

 

Port of Silistra

 

The Silistra industrial port is the only one Bulgarian port on the Danube River with the capacity to hold river and sea ships, weighting up to 5000 tons.

 

    The Silistra Danube commercial port has a 400 meters key, 5 places for ship docks, mechanization for pre-transportation: portal cranes – 1/32 tons; 2/10 tons, and platform scale for weighting up to 50 tons.

 

    The future ferry link between Tutrakan – Oltenitza (Romania) and Silistra – Kalarash (Romania) will be of a great importance for trans-border activities and accessing the Bucharest market. The road-to-road terminal of Silistra – Reni (Ukraine) through the Danube River will also help to increase trade between countries.

 

    All of the variations mentioned above are alternative transportations trade routes to the European Transport Corridor ¹ 9.

 

Airport of Silistra

 

Ten kilometers outside of Silistra there is a cargo airport, which was built for international and internal flights. It is state owned, but unfortunately it is not functioning.

 

It could reach this possible capacity:

                   » 35 000 passengers;

                   » 3 000 tons/year.

   The airport has a fully equipped flight tower and the second longest runway in the country.

 

Railroad

 

Length of the railroad network – 67 km;

    Trains – six, of which:

         - 4 trains for cargo,

         - 2 combined trains for passengers and cargo.

    The railroad network in Silistra Region is a part of the national rail system and serves directly ten villages and towns along the route.

 

Autoroads

 

Length of the route network – 931, 5 km for the District;

Four categories of the route: » I class – 55, 5 km, » II class – 152, 2 km, » III

class – 280, 8 km, » IV class – 442, 9 km.
